Number of Child Abuse and Neglect Victims
Definition: The number of child abuse victims from reports classified as "probable cause". Probable cause can mean the child is receiving a family assessment because of suspicion of abuse or that child abuse or neglect has occurred. The rate is expressed per 1,000 children.
Rationale: A key indicator of child/family well-being. This benchmark meets most Boone County Indicators criteria. Because prevention efforts are organized, this benchmark is important to track over time.
