Boone County Indicators 2005

Health and Mental Health
Untreated/Uncontrolled Diabetes Mellitus.

Definition:Combined rates of emergency room visits and inpatient hospitalizations for diabetes mellitus.

Hospitalizations and Emergency Room Visits for Diabetes, 2000 - 2004

Rationale:This statistic has been identified as one of the primary health issues in Boone County. A simple screening technique (blood glucose) is available at health fairs, conducted by the Columbia/Boone County Health Department in its rural outreach clinics and by other local agencies. A concerted public health marketing campaign can be used to increase the number of people who participate in screening.
